A colour is only a colour on the material
A colour code on a screen or in a fan deck says less than you might think. The same shade looks different on a stucco finish than on paper: the surface has a slight texture, catches the light in its own way and gains more or less depth from the finish. A warm ochre can look almost golden in the morning sun and turn brownish in the evening under artificial light.
That is why we do not start from the code, but from the sample. In the photo you see a series of colour samples of PU Stuc in our workshop: yellow and ochre shades left and right, terracotta and warm orange in the middle, each time in several nuances side by side. Every sample is made with the real product and the same finish as in the final space.
Why we make the samples ourselves
PU Stuc is a water-based polyurethane stucco. It is used in homes, bathrooms and showers, but also for finishing furniture and in commercial spaces. It is slightly flexible, scratch-resistant and water-resistant — properties that make the finish last. Precisely because such a finish stays in view for years, the colour has to be right.
We produce our products ourselves, in Belgium, and we tint them ourselves as well. That means a sample is not an approximation of what will be delivered later, but a piece of the same material, from the same production. What you hold in your hand is what ends up in the project.
That in-house production also means a custom colour is not an exceptional procedure for us. If an architect has a specific shade in mind, we make samples of it. If a client hesitates between two nuances, we lay them side by side.
Choosing with something in your hand
For anyone choosing a colour, that changes the conversation. The question is no longer which of a limited number of standard colours comes closest, but which colour you want exactly. And that choice is not made on gut feeling, but with the sample in hand, by the window, next to the joinery or the tile the finish will meet.
For installers it is just as important. They apply our products and face the end client when the result is in place. A colour approved beforehand on the real material avoids surprises afterwards — for everyone.
Behind the scenes, without secrets
What you cannot see in the photo, we deliberately leave out: exactly how a shade is put together stays in our workshop. What we are happy to show is the way of working. At Cuore a colour is first made, then viewed, then compared — and only then does it go to a project.
It is a small step in the whole process, but one that says a lot about how we work: close to the material, close to the people who work with it, and with the time to do it properly.
